Flash Villains from Screen to Page: Golden Glider

Most everyone is enjoying their summer, but fans of the CW DC shows are counting down until autumn begins and we get our heroes back! Until then we are taking time and learning more about the all of the Flash’s foes and their origins in both the show and the comics that inspired them. First we looked at Grodd and second was Weather Wizard, now it is time we look at a character who is so different than her comic book counter part, Lisa Snart aka Golden Glider!

Us Flash viewers first met Lisa in season 1 in the episode titled Rouge Time, she is the sister of the smartest of the Rouges Leonard Snart AKA Captain Cold. She saves her brother and Mick from the prison transport after the Flash foils their plans. Thought not said out loud it is assumed Leonard made a plan to lure Cisco in to make himself and Mick new guns after the others were confiscated by the police. That plan involved Lisa hitting on Cisco and bringing him back the house they were squating in. Under threat of his brothers life Cisco remakes Captain Cold and Heat Wave’s gun and then is forced to make Lisa a gun that is beautiful and deadly….so he makes her a gun that shoots gold…it seems like a very expensive gun to have amo for…but I am not a scientist sooo. Lisa is also a big part in moving the metas at the end of season one that goes so terribly. Lisa had a hard childhood with a terribly abusive father, which obviously contributed to her current actions. The way she interacts with Cisco makes you really believe that she has a soft spot for him. Captain Cold himself has a soft spot for his little sister as well, several times in both Flash and Legends he is done things he other wise would not to save his sister, the first time from his father and the second from Mick after he becomes Chronos. I am sure we have not seen the last of Lisa Snart, she is too fun of a character !

In the comics Lisa Snart’s story is of course a bit different. A lot of characters we see in The Flash TV show are Metas who are not in the comics. The Snarts’ are the exception, pre New 52 both were just normal criminals who have a grudge aginced the Scarlet Speedster. Lisa was a pro ice skater who was in a relationship with Top who is also a member of the Rouges, after a battle with The Flash Top lost his life and Lisa became obsessed with ending The Flash! She is not the most respected of the rouges, most of them just see her as Captain Cold’s tag along sister. That is the trait I find most similar to TV Lisa, she has had zero independent story lines of Cold. She is a cool enough character that she could carry her own story line, so fingers crossed for something independent heading her way. A big difference between the TV show and her early comic days is that in the comics she does not use a gun, her name comes from her ice skating. She has a pair of skates that allows her to skate on any surface including air.

post New 52 the rouges decide they don’t want to be dependent on their various forms of technology, so find a doctor to write their weapons powers into their DNA. During the experiment Lisa is caught in the explosion that gives everyone their powers. She ends up with lots of super awesome powers including, astral projection, teleport, flight while astral, intangibility, and super speed. She also has prehensile ribbon-like tendrils that she can use to wrap around people and objects to lift or throw them. She is much more dominate in the New 52 and forms her own rouges gallery to take on The Flash. She only gives The Rouges back after her plan is complicated by her brothers appearance and then Grodd and his troops show up, she relinquish The Rouges to Leonard to defeat Grodd. After the defeat the Rogues are celebrating and Lisa and Mirror Master try and figure out how get Mirror Master out of Mirror World. She does get him out, but in doing so is unable to get her astral form back into her body. She is now just stuck as in her “ghost form”

It doesn’t matter what form she appears in TV or Comics, I would not want to be Lisa Snart’s bad side. She is fierce and holds a grudge like only a Snart can!
