Finally – ‘Strange Things’ Season 2 Is Coming Our Way

In what could be the least shocking news in recent memory, Netflix announced this morning that critcal darling Stranger Things has been picked up for a second season.. The announcement was a foregone conclusion following the show’s critical reception and widespread admiration, much in part in how much 80’s nostalgia the production ebbs into each and every scene. Also doesn’t hurt to have Guillermo Del Toro and Stephen King praising the show as one of the most original television shows to debut in years.

The Duffer Brothers will return to write and executive produce the series alongside Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Carl Gajdusek. During the long month in which fans waited anxiously for a renewal announcement, the writers spent that time mapping out the nine episode second season. ALll that remains is to write the scripts, finish pre-production, and get to lensing the new season. While details are very sparse, the episode titles were announced in the 30-second stinger Neflix debuted on Facebook in the early morning hours.

The entire cast is expected to return (the real queston is – what about Eleven?!) along with some new surprises, all without losing focus on the characters the show has built its foundation upon. Though, ff the first season was dripping with the essence of Steven Spielberg and Stephen King, we can expect the master of the sequel, James Cameron, to finally get his due. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Matt Duffer explained, “There’s Temple of Doom, Alien, Terminator 2. I guess a lot of this is James Cameron. But he’s brilliant. And I think one of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original. So I think we kinda looked to him and what he does and tried to capture a little bit of the magic of his work.”

Here’s hoping we found out why Hopper got in the car with the CIA, what exactly Will spewed into the sink at Christmas dinner, and what else The Upside Down has to scare up with the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana. Now the waiting begins. Stranger Things is expected to debut sometime in 2017, but if I were a betting man I’d say another July debut would be expected.
