News for Fans, By Fans!

‘Game of Thrones’ Final Season will Officially be 6 Episodes

Hey Game of Thrones fans!  This isn’t exactly new news but, it’s newly confirmed news.  For a couple of years now, there has been discussion about the last two seasons of the series being shorter than the previous six.  However, up until now, that has just been discussion.

Entertainment Weekly reports that, the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is confirmed as only containing six episodes.  Bummer, right?  Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have been saying for years that the plan for the series was to end at 73 total episodes.  The series total amount of episodes current stands at 60 over the past 6 seasons (each season containing 10 episodes).

This means, it’s officially confirmed that season 7 will contain 7 episodes, leaving season 8 with 6 episodes to wrap up the story.  That doesn’t seem like a whole lot of time left in order to wrap up all the plot lines but, cast members Kit Harrington and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau have confirmed, the pace for this upcoming season will be much quicker than the past.

Additionally, we do know that there are 5 successor series currently in the process of being written by a team of writers with consultations from George R. R. Martin so, even if the regular series’ seasons get cut shorter than we’d like them to be, take comfort knowing that, there is still more  Game of Thrones  on the way, in some form.

And, hey, there’s always hope that, at some point, Martin may actually finish the next installment in the novel series too.  At least that’s something to look forward to.

Game of Thrones season 7 kicks off July 16th.  You can check out the brand new trailer for the upcoming season HERE.
