Ron Perlman Passes the ‘Hellboy’ Torch to David Harbour During Dinner with Patton Oswalt

On Monday night, the proverbial Hellboy torch was officially passed on to Stranger Things star David Harbour when he, Ron Perlman (aka, the original Hellboy) and Patton Oswalt met for dinner for the what trio is jokingly calling a summit meeting.

Oswalt posted a picture of the three of them to his social media pages stating, “The summit dinner was a smashing success.  Now, to launch my new pop duo, Hellboyz.”  In all seriousness, if David Harbour and Ron Perlman became a pop duo, we would totally buy that album.  But hey, we would pretty much buy anything either one of them is selling because they are just that awesome!  Check out Oswalt’s post below:

Perlman posted the same picture with a bit of a different story to his Facebook.  His caption said, “Not since Bill Clinton, Menachem Begin, and Anwar Sadat has there been such an epic summit yelding such a little result! Apparently Patton Oswalt aka balvenieboy thought it was a good idea to host David Harbour and yours truly for a detente dinner. The result: i gained 3 pounds and ruined my liver. Meanwhile, good luck kid! Signed, the babe.”

The joke being referenced here is that some may have expected Perlman to have some animosity towards Harbour being that, about a month ago, it was announced by Mike Mignola, Hellboy creator, that a reboot of the film is in the works with Harbour onboard for the role of the title character.  For years, fans have been begging for another Hellboy film with the original star, Perlman, playing the title role.  After that announcement was made, it was clear that film wasn’t going to happen.

Clearly, there are absolutely no hard feeling between the two stars.  In fact, Perlman, who is always nothing but a professional gentleman, even wished Harbour all the best during a panel last month, prior to this summit meeting.

David Harbour got in on the social media action by showing some love to both Perlman and Oswalt.  He posted to twitter saying, “I’d follow these two into the gates of hell…”  Nice reference, Harbour!  We see what you did there.

Originally created in 1993, the Hellboy comic series centers around a demon summoned by the Nazis during World War II from a portal to a paranormal dimension.  Years later, the demon is all grown up and is serving as an agent to protect America from dark and evil forces.  The first film in the franchise was released in 2004 and starred Perlman, Selma Blair and Doug Jones.  A sequel to the film was released in 2008.  The upcoming new film with Harbour does not yet have an expected release date.
