Fan Fest Picks: Top 5 Episodes of ‘Arrow’

Six Years Ago years ago, the world was introduced to Arrow. Season 6 of the hit CW TV Series will kick off this coming Thursday, and fellow Arrowverse Expert Jules and I decided to compile a list of our Top 5 favorite episodes in celebration of the show’s return.

5. “Haunted” (Season 4, Episode 5)

Alyssa: Not only do we get the soul-saving of Sara, we also get Constantine in the Arrowverse. This episode had a lot of good moments. Every scene with Constantine was a joy to watch and I just hope that The CW will be able to get Matt Ryan back on one of the shows now that they are doing an animated series on CW Seed.

“My Name is Oliver Queen” (Season 3, Episode 23)

(Jules)

Jules: The title of the episode alone is what really amazes me. ‘My Name is Oliver Queen’ is the words we hear at the beginning of every episode, which is the reason why I got chills when he said it to Ra’s himself. I loved seeing Team Arrow coming together to ensure that their city remained safe. Also, Oliver finally displayed expert swordsmanship and defeated Ra’s.

4. “Sacrifice” (Season 1, Episode 23)

Alyssa: The Season 1 finale has you on the edge of your seat as Team Arrow faces the Undertaking. Malcolm was such a good adversary and when he announces that he had a back-up machine, I remember being in complete shock. The end of the episode is incredibly heartbreaking and still hurts even the fourth time watching it.

“Legends of Yesterday” (Season 4, Episode 8)

Jules: I’m a big fan of all the crossover episodes, but this one really stuck out to me. I thought it was so cool to see Barry run back in time and pass the message onto Oliver that their plan wasn’t going to work. I also loved that we had a lot of one-on-one Barry and Oliver scenes. They’re quite the dynamic duo.

3. “Seeing Red” (Season 2, Episode 20)

Alyssa: This is another episode that punches you right in the feels. Slade is Oliver’s most formidable opponent and the final scene of the episode just leaves you reeling. We get Moira’s redemption, but then Slade murders her in front of Oliver and Thea. So heartbreaking. Another moment that was completely shocking.

“Lian Yu” (Season 5, Episode Episode 23)

(Jules)

Jules: Aside from the fact that I got to see my favorite ‘villain’ return (Deathstroke), the episode had so many factors and moving parts that it was completely amazing. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire episode. This episode was written extremely well, and seeing the team ups was absolutely incredible.

2. “Unthinkable” (Season 2, Episode 23)

Alyssa: Season 2 was building up to the final confrontation between Oliver and Slade. This entire episode is action-packed as Team Arrow, with the help of some unlikely allies, face off against the Mirakuru soldiers. Oliver had every reason to kill Slade, yet he didn’t give in to his darkness and instead cured him. But that also means that Manu Bennet has the opportunity to return, which happened and has been amazing.

“Taken” (Season 4, Episode 15)

Jules: As if William being abducted wasn’t bad enough, forcing Oliver to drop out of the mayoral race was the icing on the cake. I was completely in love with the addition of Vixen in this episode. She was absolutely fantastic. This was another extremely exciting and heart pounding episode.

1. “Invasion!” (Season 5, Episode 8)

(Alyssa)

Alyssa: Though this comes in the middle of the massive four-part crossover, this episode is a perfect homage to all 100 episodes of Arrow. I love everything about it, from getting to see some of our favorites come back to all of the amazing action sequences. There’s a lot of heart and is a real turning point for Oliver. He spent five years in hell only to come back to four more years that have seemed like hell. For the first time, Oliver is making the decision to not let his past weigh him down. He’ll hold all of those he’s loved and lost close, but they will no longer bring him down. They will provide him the strength he needs to move forward

“Deathstroke” (Season 2, Episode 18)

Jules: Here we get that infamous Slade Wilson line “I always keep my promises”. I loved every single part of this episode. Here we really got to see the tensions rise between Oliver and Slade. In addition to dealing with Slade, Oliver also had to fight for his company from the diabolical Isabel Roschev. This will hands down, always and forever be my favorite episode.

Honorable Mention:

“Uprising” (Season 3, Episode 12)
