News for Fans, By Fans!

‘Game of Thrones’ Star Kit Harington’s Explosive Miniseries ‘Gunpowder’ is Coming to HBO in December

Great news for Kit Harington fans!  Earlier this year, the very first explosive teaser trailer dropped for the Game of Thrones star’s upcoming new miniseries Gunpowder.  The teaser was released with very little additional information regarding the series, other than the basic plot line and the fact that it would air on the BBC One Network at some point in the near future.

On Tuesday, news broke that the miniseries has been picked up by HBO with plans to air all three parts this coming December!  According to Variety, Harington said the following in a statement regarding the series’ addition to HBO:

“Three years ago, Daniel West and I conceived and began developing ‘Gunpowder’ with Kudos and Ronan Bennett.  We are now thrilled to share this unique story with the U.S. audience. I can’t think of a better place to do that than my home at HBO.”

HBO also revealed the news via their social media pages.  The following video reveals the dates on which the three-part miniseries will air:

President of HBO miniseries and Cinemax programming, Kary Antholis also commented on the series being offered through HBO as well as on Harington’s connection and passion for this project:

“We are delighted to offer a platform for a project that is so close to Kit Harington’s heart.  Kit’s passion for and belief in ‘Gunpowder’ are evident in every frame of the miniseries.”

Gunpowder will be a three-part miniseries telling the story of the real life, 17th-century “Gunpowder” plot.  The story follows a group of English Catholics who try to restore a Catholic to the crown by attempting to blow up the House of Lords and kill King James I.  While many believe that Guy Fawkes (played by Tom Cullen) was responsible for the plot, Harington plays Robert Catesby who is the actual mastermind behind the assassination attempt.  The miniseries will also star Liv Tyler as Anne Vaux (Catesby’s cousin), and Mark Gatiss as Robert Cecil (King James’ spy who is ordered to seek out and destroy anyone who is involved with that assassination plot).

The three-part miniseries will air on HBO on 12/18, 12/19 and 12/20.  Will you be watching?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
