Kit Harington Says He is “Quite Emotional” About the Final ‘Game of Thrones’ Season

We still have quite a long time to wait before the final season of Game of Thrones premieres, however, as fans, it’s difficult not to get a little sad about this epic journey coming to a close. Eight seasons is a long time to devote to a show and if fans are getting emotional over the ending of the series, can you imagine what the cast must feel like?

Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow on the series, chatted with Deadline recently about his new mini-series Gunpowder, however, before diving into the new business, of course, they discussed Game of Thrones.

Harington started off by saying filming, so far, is going really well and that the cast and crew are enduring long days (and nights) of hard work.  He said that, while there’s a certain level of pressure that comes along with filming any portion of the series, this final season comes with some feelings he’s never felt before.  Harington said:

“I think there’s a certain pressure I’ve not felt before. Whereas before, every year there’s always been a bit of pressure, this season is one where we could easily let people down. Obviously, we don’t want to do that so we’re very much stepping up everyone’s game which is very apparent, at least to me. We’re all growing a bit and I think everyone’s attention is very focused on what we’re doing in a way that it’s always been, but it may be more apparent.”

While Harington assures us he and the cast are focused professionally, on a personal level, he’s not quite sure how he feels about this eight-year chapter of his life coming to a close.  Harington said:

“Honestly, it’s weird. So, to me, that question is a weird one and a valid one too. The “how are you feeling” thing is a strange one because I’m not sure that you’re feeling one particular thing at any one time when you’re present in it. Really you’re kind of overwhelmed to pay much attention. So, it’s all after the fact, you know. So I look back at the ‘Battle of the Bastards’ episode now and I understand what it meant and what it was to do it, but at the time you’re just getting on with the job.  I don’t know what I’m feeling, is what I’m trying to say. I will say I think I’m understandably more affected by it than I thought I would be.”

It’s an understandable response to such a monumental moment in one’s life but, eventually, Harington was able to convey that he’s really feeling quite emotional over the whole ordeal.  Harington continued:

“You know I wasn’t quite cynical about things, I’m quite straightforward and English. But, really, eight years of your life is a long time to connect with anything. I didn’t know at the beginning, if this would be a show that no one would watch or if it would be a show that a lot of people would watch. And I’ve never been in a situation, a show, that’s lasted this long. In my life, it’s a pretty significant thing that’s happened to me, and coming to the end of it is understandably quite emotional.”

If that doesn’t put a little lump in your throat and a tear in your eye then nothing will.  The 8th and final season of Game of Thrones is currently in production and isn’t expected to premiere on HBO until 2019.
