Perfect Casting Alert! Tom Hanks to Play Mr. Rogers in New Biopic
It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood! Tom Hanks has just been cast to play the world’s best TV neighbor, Mister Rogers in a new biopic called You Are My Friend. We can’t think of anyone better than Hanks to play the iconic children’s show host who brought so much happiness, laughter, wisdom, and amazing sweaters to our screens for over 30 years.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is “inspired by a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and award-winning journalist Tom Junod. The cynical journalist begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed.” The screenplay, which originally wound up on the 2013 Black List, was written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. and it will be directed by Diary of a Teenage Girl’s Marielle Heller.
Fans were definitely on board with the idea of the beloved actor putting on the iconic cardigan of the beloved TV personality.

So Tom Hanks has played Sully, Captain Phillips, Walt Disney, and will be Mr. Rogers. Is there a role he can’t play?

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
