‘This Is Us’ Scores Huge Ratings in Post-Super Bowl Slot

Turns out the Eagles weren’t the only ones winning on Super Bowl Sunday! Fans were already excited when This Is Us was chosen to be the post-Super Bowl LII show this year, but when it was revealed that the episode would also solve the show’s biggest mystery of how Jack Pearson died, things hit a whole new level. It was going to be a huge night of television in general, but especially for a This Is Us fan, and no one wanted to miss it, which is why it’s no surprise that This Is Us brought in the biggest post-Super Bowl ratings in the last six years.

The special episode was watched by a little less than 27 million viewers and hit a 16.2 rating in the overnight numbers, which is 59% higher than last year’s premiere of Fox’s 24: Legacy. This is also extremely impressive considering the actual Super Bowl was the least watched game of the past eight years. It was the biggest post-Super Bowl viewership for a scripted series since House drew in 29 million viewers for Fox in 2008. Another NBC staple, The Voice, currently holds the overall rating record with 37.6 million viewers in 2012. The numbers are an all-time high for the latest NBC tear-jerker, which is only in its second season and shows no signs of slowing down.

While the mystery surrounding Jack Pearson’s death has finally been solved, This Is Us still remains to be one of the reigning series on network television alongside The Good Doctor, so don’t expect their numbers to start dropping anytime soon. This Is Us is back to Tuesday nights starting tomorrow at its regular time of 9:00 p.m.
