Robert Kirkman Says Lennie James’ Presence on ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ Will “Change Everything”

Fans of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead have been reeling ever since creator Robert Kirkman officially announced that a crossover event would take place between the two hit series.

A crossover is something fans have been wanting since the beginning of Fear the Walking Dead and, as it turns out, Kirkman revealed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that this was in the cards for the series all along.  He said:

“When we started Fear the Walking Dead, the original idea actually included some things that would eventually tie in with the other show.  We wanted to give it a few seasons to find its sea legs, so to speak, and make sure that it stood on its own and provided its own experience. The goal was that eventually, once we had established that, we would find some kind of creative way to tie things in.”

With Fear heading into its fourth season, now seemed like the perfect time to tie the two worlds together.  Once that decision was made, Kirkman and Scott Gimple agreed that Morgan (played by Lennie James) would be the perfect crossover character.  Kirkman said:

“When Scott suggested moving Morgan over it seemed like a really great idea and a really cool way to bring things in. I know the audience doesn’t really know exactly how that makes sense yet, or what’s actually coming of it. As the year progresses and you see exactly what it is, you’ll see that it’s going to be a really great story for Morgan that will give us a lot of cool insight into his character.”

While we are certainly looking forward to getting some cool insight into Morgan as a character, what will the introduction of Morgan mean for the Fear characters?  According to Kirkman, Lennie James’ presence in the Fear the Walking Dead world is going to change everything!  He said:

“It’s going to be a lot of really great stuff for Lennie James to do.  Lennie James’ presence with that established cast in Fear the Walking Dead is going to change everything for them, and give them so much more new stuff to play off of, and really change the story in an interesting way that I feel like is going to kick start that show, and really get the engines roaring on that one.”

Sounds like exciting times are ahead on Fear the Walking Dead.  The series will return to AMC for its fourth season starting on April 15th at 10 PM EST – immediately following The Walking Dead‘s season 8 finale which airs starting at 9 PM EST.
