A Sequel to Mark Wahlberg’s ‘Mile 22’ is Already in the Works

Mark Wahlberg’s newest action-packed blockbuster hasn’t even hit theaters yet, however, there’s already a sequel said to be in development from STX.

The Hollywood Reporter says that a sequel to the upcoming action film Mile 22 is already in the works with Black List writer Umair Aleem on board to write the script. While it may seem that STX is putting the cart before the horse, so to speak, THR reports that the studio had preconceived plans for a Mile 22 cross-platform franchise. This would mean that the Mile 22 world would expand beyond the big screen onto television and even into the virtual reality realm.

Of course, plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, especially since the first film hasn’t even been released yet. The first trailer for the film dropped last month and, so far, this looks like a movie we won’t want to miss!

In the film, Wahlberg plays CIA operative James Silva who, along with a top-secret tactical command team, has been tasked with retrieving and transporting an asset who holds life-threatening information to Mile 22 for extraction before the enemy closes in on them.

The film also stars Lauren Cohan, Iko Uwais, Ronda Rousey, and John Malkovich. Producers are Peter Berg, Mark Wahlberg, and Stephen Levinson and the script is written by Graham Roland and Lea Carpenter.

Mile 22 hits theaters on August 3, 2018. What do you think about the fact that a sequel to Mile 22 is already in the works? What do you think about STX’s plan to develop a cross-platform franchise? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
