Ryan Reynolds Still Doesn’t Know who Leaked ‘Deadpool’ Test Footage

The rib cracking superhero film, Deadpool, might have become one of the big fish in the cinematic super heroics since its two films made a collective total of $1.5 billion. This was actually not always the case. The original pitch for the character was not the best for Fox, but things changed when the concept short was leaked online. Last week marked 4 years since the short was leaked and Ryan Reynolds is celebrating the day as what he refers to as the Leak-iversery.

When Ryan first appeared as Deadpool, he made a debut as Wade Wilson, a character best known for wielding katannas and making jokes. His appearance was not that long. He only appeared for five minutes in the fan favorite; X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Even though Fox didn’t have much faith in his character, Ryan Reynolds got director Tim Miller and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to come on board. They put together the CGI mock-up of one of the film’s best set pieces and the rest is history. There were challenges in Reynolds’ way, like the poor reception of the Deadpool spinoff and the failure of his film, Green Lantern, but Ryan Reynolds never once gave up on Deadpool.

At first, Fox were unimpressed by the funny, violence filled, hilarious scene that was later leaked online on 4th July 2014. But it went viral even after the original post was taken down, prompting the film to be green lit for production due to the fan base it had created over such a short period of time. It is important to know that Reynolds cleared the air and denied any allegations of him being the source of the leak.

With Deadpool as one of the highest grossing super hero films in the world, Ryan celebrated with his followers on Twitter, saying: “It’s the 4 year Leak-iversery. UPDATE: Still searching for the bastard who leaked our test footage onto the internet causing Deadpool to receive a green light. Taking over the investigation myself. #Angry.”
