Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney Team Up For New Apple series

Two of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s main stars are pairing off for a brand new comedy series with Apple. Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney have just received a straight to series order on an untitled series set in a video game development studio.

According to EW, the project will “explore the intricacies of the human condition through hilarious and innovative ways.” McElhenney is set to star as well. The series marks the duo’s first collaboration since they began working on Always Sunny in 2005. Day and McElhenney will executive produce alongside Michael Rotenberg, Nicholas Frenkel, Gérard Guillemot, Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik.

The comedy will join a growing lineup from Apple, which features series such as Jason Momoa’s SeeAaron Paul and Octavia Spencer’s Are You Sleeping? and the untitled Reese Witherspoon/Jennifer Aniston project. Kristen Wiig was originally attached to star in a comedy series but had to drop out due to filming conflicts with Wonder Woman 1984.

FXX’s Always Sunny, which follows five friends in Philadelphia who own an Irish bar, is just a couple weeks away from its 13th season premiere and seeing that it has already been renewed for a fourteenth season, the series is set to tie the record for the longest running live-action sitcom. Glenn Howerton, who is also part of Always Sunny’s main ensemble went off on his own last year for A.P. Bio, which recently received a second season order by NBC. Kaitlin Olson, who plays Dee on Always Sunny, had also been starring on Fox’s The Mick for two seasons, but the series was just canceled.
