Christmas Themed Zombie Film ‘Anna and the Apocalypse’ has an Important Backstory

The idea came to Ryan McHenry in 2009. He was a Scottish film student and asked his friend if he’d be interested in making a zombie musical.

It eventually became much more than just an idea for a graduation project with his school mate Alan McDonald. Anna and the Apocalypse is a musical, horror comedy, foot-tapping, film packed with action and fun.

As the idea for this film grew, McHenry simultaneously became known for creating “Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal” shorts on Vine. Then, he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, osteosarcoma.

Now, there are only three months until people will be able to see it in theaters.

Although McHenry went through intense treatment, he insisted the film be finished. He passed away in 2015. Alan McDonald honored his wishes and completed the script and eventually sought out producers. His search led him to John McPhail, who saw its heart and said yes. The cast was formed and included Ella Hunt as Anna. They began to bring it to life.

With its original songs by Roddy Hart & Tommy Reilly, Anna and the Apocalypse “bridges the gap between The Rocky Horror Picture Show and High School Musical while anchoring its story within present-day concerns.”

When a zombie apocalypse threatens the sleepy town of Little Haven at Christmastime, Anna and her friends are forced to fight, slash and sing their way to survival, facing the undead in a desperate race to reach their loved ones. But they soon discover that no one is safe in this new world, and with civilization falling apart around them, the only people they can truly rely on are each other…
