Why are we Getting a Separate ‘Shazam!’ & ‘Black Adam’ Movie?

The DC Comics universe is growing by the day, especially with all the movies that Warner Bros. has on their list to start productions on in the coming half year (think of Joker and Birds Of Prey). One of those movies that are ready to hit the following year is David F. Sandberg‘s directed Shazam!

One other movie that is in line to start productions is something DC Comics or Warner are keeping under a tight lock and key. Especially because we were expecting Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Black Adam in the first Shazam! movie, but they said they couldn’t do it because of scheduling conflicts. Instead of merging the two characters into one film, DC Comics decided it was a better idea to make two separate movies. Hiram Garcia, the producer of both the Black Adam and Shazam! film, explained why they made this decision. Here is what he had to say:

“So as we were developing an actual Black Adam and Shazam movie, we were just realizing that both characters are so special that we didn’t want to compromise either of them by cramming them both into the same movie. So that’s why we made the decision to let Shazam have his own standalone movie and kind of launch him properly, and then we’ll do the same for Black Adam. And so that kind of really freed things up. It allowed us to develop the right version of both.”

If you look at it this way, it makes total sense why Black Adam is getting a movie. Doesn’t change the fact that we want to see a showoff between Shazam! and Black Adam. I guess Dwayne johnson‘s Black Adam was too much of a badass!

Shazam! will hit theaters on April 5, 2019.
