'The Walking Dead' Season 9B Trailer Offers a Creepy First Look at Alpha and Beta

Fans are undoubtedly still reeling over the shocking mid-season finale of The Walking Dead. We have about two and a half months to recover, but it looks like things are only going to get even more terrifying in the second half of season nine.

At the end of Sunday’s episode, you may have missed the preview for season 9B if you were still picking your jaw up off the floor over the unexpected death of our beloved Jesus (played by Tom Payne). The preview gives fans a look at what happens directly following the events of episode 908 and beyond.

The show has now officially introduced the Whisperers, but the characters still don’t quite know just what kind of a new threat they are facing. In the below season 9B trailer, we get our first solid look at the “new enemy.” The trailer is filled with creepy scenes involving the Whisperers. We get a brief look at Samantha Morton’s Alpha as well as our first clear look at Sons of Anarchy and Outsiders star Ryan Hurst in full-on Beta mode, and it looks like he’s taking on Daryl is what’s sure to be an epic fight scene.

Check out the trailer below.

Back in August, it was announced that Hurst would be joining the popular AMC series in the role of Beta, a pivotal villainous character from the comic book source materials. Beta is the second in command to Alpha as leader of the Whisperers. The group is known for wearing walker skin, which we saw in episode 908, to blend in with roaming herds while communicating through faint whispers which, to someone not paying close attention, simply sound like walker groans.

As for Hurst’s character, Skybound’s The Walking Dead describes Beta as, “a brute who is fiercely loyal to Alpha and will kill anyone who threatens her or their way of life. Negan is the first character to meet him and nicknames him “Frowny Mctwoknives,” “Beta Mctwoknives,” and Jolly Green Giant for his enormous height and two knives.”

We can’t wait to see what happens with the Whisperers storyline when The Walking Dead returns from its mid-season break. The Walking Dead will return for the second half of season nine on February 10th.
