Fox Orders ‘Prodigal Son’ Pilot From Greg Berlanti

Greg Berlanti is quickly becoming one of the most recognizable names on television. With 15 scripted series including The CW’s Riverdale, Arrowverse, and Netflix’s new hit You, already on the air, Berlanti is continuing his reign with a new pilot order at Fox.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has just ordered a pilot for his new cop drama titled Prodigal Son. The deal marks the first collaboration for Berlanti and the network. The pilot will be written by Legends of Tomorrow’s Chris Fedak and Deception’s Sam Sklaver. Berlanti will executive produce under his Berlanti Productions banner alongside Fedak, Sklaver, and Sarah Schechter.

Prodigal Son will follow “Malcolm Bright, the son of a notorious serial killer called The Surgeon who understands how killers think. The criminal psychologist uses his skills to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers while balancing his manipulative mother, annoyingly normal sister, and a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son.” The series will provide both a fresh take on the crime genre and a darkly comedic tone.

That’s not all for Berlanti though. Also on the horizon for the producer are two new pilots over at The CW. The network just ordered a pilot for a Riverdale spinoff titled Katy Keenewhich follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City. That series joins the latest Arrowverse series, Batwoman, which stars Ruby Rose and was ordered to series late last year.
