Michael Rooker Joins HBO’s ‘True Detective’ Season 3

If you’ve been paying close attention to HBO’s newest season of True Detective chances are you may have spotted a familiar face in one of the show’s recent episode.

The Walking Dead and Guardians of the Galaxy star Michael Rooker graced the screen on the series in episode 6 via a quick glimpse of a photo featuring the actor. It has now been confirmed that the man in the photo is, in fact, Rooker and that he has joined the series in the role of Hoyt, the billionaire owner of Hoyt Foods – a role which will be pivotal to the series’ plot.

Season three sees the show returning to a rural setting in the Ozarks. The official logline for the season says, “The third season of the show tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods. Mahershala Ali stars as Wayne Hayes, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. Carmen Ejogo and Stephen Dorff also star. Created by Nic Pizzolatto.”

In addition to Rooker, season 3 of True Detective stars Mahershala Ali, CarmenEjogo, and Stephen Dorff. Other cast members set for recurring roles include Ray Fisher, Scoot McNairy, Mamie Gummer, Deborah Ayorinde, Michael Greyeyes, Jon Tenney, and Rhys Wakefield.

Season one writer Nic Pizzolatto returns to pen the third season, with the exception of the fourth episode. The fourth episode was written collaboratively by both Pizzolatto and David Milch. Pizzolatto will also serve as showrunner, executive producer and he will be making his directorial debut during the upcoming season as he steps into the director’s chair along with Daniel Sakheim and Jeremy Saulnier who directed the first two episodes. Saulnier will also executive produce along with Scott Stephens, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Cary Fukunaga, Scott Stephens, Steve Golin, Bard Dorros and Richard Brown.

Season three of True Detective premiered on January 13, 2019, and is currently airing only on HBO with just two episodes left this season.
