Director Denis Villeneuve‘s upcoming new adaptation of the classic sci-fi film Dune just keeps leveling up and gets more and more impressive each day.

To start with, Warner Bros. and Legendary revealed via a press release today that filming has officially begun on the epic production. Additionally, the announcement revealed the monstrous, star-studded cast which includes Timothee Chalamet (Beautiful Boys) as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson (The Greatest Showman) as Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as Duke Leto Atreides, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) as Gurney Halleck, Stellan Skarsgard (Good Will Hunting) as Baron Harkonnen, Jason Momoa (Aquaman) as Duncan Idaho, Zendaya (The Greatest Showman) as Chani, Javier Bardem (Skyfall) as Stilgar, and Charlotte Rampling (45 Years) as Gaius Helen Mohiam. Additional casting also includes Ant-Man and the Wasp’s David Dastmalchian and Lady Bird‘s Stephen Henderson. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon‘s Chang Chen is also currently in negotiations to join the production.

Additionally, the release confirmed the films official synopsis which reads:

[row]”A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.”[/row]

To top off this astronomically epic production, Oscar-winning and multiple Oscar-nominated composer Hans Zimmer, perhaps best-known for his work on Blade Runner 2049, Inception, Gladiator, and The Lion King just to name a few, is scoring the film. This is already shaping up to be one of the biggest films of 2020.

Dune is based on the epic 1965 novels written by Frank Herbert. It was first released as a film in 1984 and starred Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan in the main role and was directed by David Lynch. This new production is being filmed on location in Budapest, Hungary, and in Jordan.

Dune is slated for a worldwide theatrical release starting on November 20, 2020.
