‘Black Adam’ Finds A Director

The Rock was confirmed to play Black Adam way way back in 2014. With the success of Shazam! it looks as though production on Black Adam is finally taking shape.

Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram to celebrate Black Adam’s new director, Jaume Collet-Serra who has just finished working with Johnson on Jungle Cruise, and has previously worked on films such as The Shallows, and Liam Neeson’s The Commuter, Run All Night, Unknown, and Non-Stop.

On his Instagram, Johnson shared this:

“Cool news announcing Spanish thriller filmmaker, Jaume Collet-Serra as my director for DC’s BLACK ADAM. Jaume and I have worked together for the last two years making, DISNEY’S JUNGLE CRUISE – and I’ve been very impressed with his passion, work ethic, style, vision, tone and quality. He’s hungry to break new ground with BLACK ADAM and give the fans something very cool and special. I raise a double tequila welcoming Jaume and can’t wait to bring to life the world’s anti-hero in black”

With a director finally confirmed it seems that production on Black Adam may start sooner, rather than later. One of my concerns regarding the director originates with James Wan’s Aquaman. While I absolutely love it, I believe there were some issues with the overall tone of the film. It didn’t seem like Wan’s style but Warner Brothers seem to be moving away from the dark aesthetic to a more light-hearted approach. Considering Jaume’s film history, which focuses mainly on thrillers and the occasional horror, Black Adam could suffer from the same tonal issues that both Aquaman, and to a degree, Shazam! faced.

However, I do trust in The Rock. Most of his films are filled with spectacular action and the occasional laugh here and there, but what I’m most intrigued about is that since Black Adam is an origin story, we could get a superhero film set in the Egyptian era which is something we’ve never seen before. Or we could get a film set in the modern day that uses flashbacks to show us what Black Adam was like all those years ago.

One thing is certain though, Black Adam has made a giant leap in terms of production. Hopefully in a few weeks we may even have an estimated release date- I would guess May 2021.

While we wait, I want to know what you want to see in Black Adam? Let us know in the comments!
