’13 Reasons Why’ Drops Bryce Walker Bombshell in First Season 3 Teaser
Like it or not, Netflix’s polarizing teen drama 13 Reasons Why is officially coming back for season 3…and soon! The series dropped its first season three teaser today for fans who have been begging for content since its renewal last June. It also announced that the highly anticipated new season would be hitting Netflix on August 23rd.
Much like the first season finale left off, the second season ended a cliffhanger, with quite a few seeds planted along the way as well. There was Tyler’s sexual assault by Monty, Justin’s heroin addiction (and his mom’s crazy boyfriend!), and of course, that final scene where Clay is left standing in the middle of the school parking lot with a gun. While those are all valid plot points that hopefully get addressed, the teaser heads in a different direction, revealing a major storyline regarding Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice).
Opening with Deputy Standall investigating a crime scene, a mysterious voiceover begins narrating the trailer, which shows clips of all of the characters from seasons one and two.
“Deputy Standall. Here’s the thing about the kids at Liberty High. They’re connected by their secrets. Connected and forever changed. The truth is given the right circumstances, the right motivation, anyone could have done this.”
It then pans to Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) before showing the group of kids at a funeral…Bryce Walker’s funeral.
The teaser closes with Bryce’s mom (Brenda Strong) asking the kids for any information about what happened to her son.
It’s shocking to see the series reveal such a huge plot point in the first teaser, but the fact that Bryce Walker is dead is surely enough to entice fans to watch. The character is absolutely despised after he raped both Hannah and Jessica in season 1. Then in season 2, it’s revealed that he also raped his girlfriend Chole, and after a lengthy trial, he was only given community service as punishment. On top all of that, Bryce continued showing predatory behavior and was consistently proved to be a bully and manipulator. So, the question heading into season 3 now is:

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
