Andy Serkis In Talks To Play Alfred Pennyworth

Andy Serkis may be making the transition from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the DC Universe.

According to THR, the actor, known for his role as Gollum, Caesar, Snoke and Klaue, is in talks to join Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

According to the report, Serkis is in talks to play Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth who aids the caped crusader in his fight for justice. Previous cinematic actors include Michael Caine, Jeremy Irons and Michael Gough.

If Serkis does sign on, the casting will reunite Serkis with Matt Reeves who directed the last two Planet of the Apes movies.

The Batman, as of now, stars Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman. Recent casting news revealed that Paul Dano will play The Riddler and Jeffrey Wright will play Commissioner Gordon. The reboot is set to open in cinemas on June 25th 2021.

I’m sure that Serkis was not at the top of everyone’s list of actors to play Alfred. However, I can see it working. I absolutely love the work Serkis has done for the world of motion capture but I would love to see him take on other roles.

What strikes me as interesting is that Andy Serkis is preparing to direct the sequel to VenomWith Venom 2 slated for an October 2020 release, could that interfere with The Batman and vice versa?

Hopefully all will become clear in the coming days.
