‘The Walking Dead’ Ratings Are At A Series Low
The Walking Dead hits a ratings-low with its mid-season finale for Season 10. While ratings have been on the decline for several years, the quality of the show has improved in the past two seasons with the showrunner, Angela Kang, taking over leadership.
Recently, rumors have been swirling about the show coming to an end in Season 12 and Angela Kang has also expressed her desire for the return of the original Walking Dead star, Andrew Lincoln, to the show.
Yet with the improvement and speculation on the show’s long-term future, the ratings continue to decline. Episode eight of this season, which is the mid-season finale, brought in 3.21 million total viewers on Sunday night for a 1.02 rating in the key 18-49 demographic. It is the lowest live viewing number for the series since it launched at the beginning of the decade in October of 2010. The series peaked north of 15 million viewers and has seen a huge decline.
The show will probably increase in numbers in the Live+3 numbers and AMC also has viewership now through its app/streaming service. Also, many fans point to the fact that the show is the most pirated show in the world.
This season has built off a critically acclaimed Season 9, where we saw the departure of Andrew Lincoln, a significant time jump, and the introduction of one of the comic book’s strongest storylines, the Whisperers. Led by Alpha (Samantha Morton), the Whisperers have moved into the territory of our survivors and have drawn lines, that if crossed, have grave consequences.

Walking Dead has became a snooze fest. Nothing happens, the antagonists are awful, the tone of the show has changed, and again literally nothing happens. All they do is talk. There needs to be a one or two episode objective arc where they actually accomplishes ANYTHING!
I believe DVR’s are to blame for the live viewing ratings! I record all and watch on my time as do A lot of people I know! I do not think the show has lost anyone!!! Once a TWD fan always!!! Its like a family lol
They don’t obviously do spell check as there was a misspelling in the first sentence. And it seems you hear that the show has hit an all time low every single episode so not sure how reliable any of this. I think the last two seasons have been great.
I’m a die hard fan , but here of lately the episodes have been a bit lagging the last few was good . I’m not happy with yet another good actor going Sadik but losing characters is what makes the show so great. Now with that being said BRINK BACK RICK! ANDREW (CUTTERBUCKET )LINCON !!!!!!
the deaths of characters are taken very hard. The drawn out episodes to get to the climax episode is also a factor. Some of the shows drag on and on before we see pivotal moments that could have taken place earlier on. In all honesty- i just hope this show goes out on top. Don’t allow it to fizzle out or be cancelled. Go out like game of thrones- but with a better outcome.

The past 2 seasons have been EXCELLENT, and I am watching again… it’s possible that the quality of the show is the best it’s been… but sadly, The Walking Dead died for me and for a lot of people at the end of season 6… and of those who hung on, a lot more left when Carl did, and then Rick. Watching isn’t the same as loving. My show is gone– this is just a good TV show that took its place, but doesn’t have my heart. Too bad Angela wasn’t there earlier– she might have shown better judgment. I still enjoy Talking Dead!!
Well after Rick grimes left the show it want be the same so that’s why the ratings went down
Just my opinion but after they arrived to Alexandria it starting to take a turn for me then rick and carl left …due to me being a die hard fan and a huge fan of norman reedus I still watch but I also find myself falling asleep too…I know in the zombie apocalypse no ones safe but to many main characters are gone maybe the return of rick or just a few episodes to show what happened to him… #daryldixon #fangirl
What do they expect? The original family is gone starting with Laurie… Rick’s gone, Carl’s gone, Glenns gone, Morgan left, Tara’s gone, Abraham’s gone, Maggie’s been missing… Most of the most popular characters are gone & it’s been nothing but boring!! No action what so ever! It just putts along now. Seasons ending used to upset me! Not anymore
I think the show has always fascinated me because of its ruthlessness; killing off central characters and replacing them with new ones, the bad guys getting scarier and there evil deeds getting more disturbing and horrific. It has always been patchy though, with some of the seasons more about the characters emotional development and survival Code and all that boring stuff, but then they bring us all back in when they’re at war with another group. In other words, series 3 really gripped us with the Governor but then when they killed him off the show just got boring. Then Negan came into it and it became a big thing again but the war with the Saviours soon became boring. Alpha and The Whisperers really excite me and I’m intrigued to see where the story is going to go. I think if there was more action and less of the characters being self loathing and going over all that survival code and emotional stuff, the show would be a lot more watchable. I mean come on, it’s a show about Zombies. Stop trying to make it deep and thought provoking!

It used to have me in tears – remember “The Grove” where Carol had to shoot the girl (“Look at the flowers”) and where she had to admit to Tyreese that she was the one who had killed the sick people. That was genius – both the writing and the acting. Nothing in the current season makes me feel that way.

The further down they whittle the original family of characters, the less invested I am. If it weren’t for Carol, Darryl and Michonne (now even she’s gone), I wouldn’t watch. The Whisperers are just boring, I was hoping it would move faster than the All Out War season, but it’s like a slog. I can’t stand the fake southern accent of Alpha. It’s like Scarlett O’Hara doing Shakespearean Theatre in walker skin. Everyone else has a perfect southern accent. It’s like the writers fall in love with characters like Alpha and abandon the ones we love. I don’t want the show to end because of all the good it’s done for Senoia, GA and all the jobs it’s provided (my daughter is a walker).
The walking Dead story wise is far better than negans lot and it’s the most exciting it’s ever been. Ratings declining is a concern, however if they can achieve Season 12 or more would be awesome as there must be so much more to explore and I’d rather see favourites die (as they do), than have it cancelled due to viewer apathy.
I just don’t understand why they’ve abandoned a tv favourite.
Not to mention new characters on the show nobody really cares about. Are we supposed to just drop everything and then suddenly start caring about them just cause they were introduced??
There was a time when my Sunday night plans were built around TWD. I appreciated the carefully crafted character development as much as the walkers. I began to lose interest when
the plot jumped ahead and random characters were introduced. The producers seemingly assumed viewers would immediately embrace the characters, without providing sufficient justification for why we should care. I would love to see Rick and Maggie return, but I suspect TWD has all I ready jumped the shark.
Exactly my point. I don’t care about these characters and, frankly, can’t imagine who does. Casting fell WAY off.
