He may not be a Workaholic anymore, but Adam Devine is ready to get working on his next project as he has just joined the pilot for Danny McBride’s new HBO comedy series Righteous Gemstones.

A religiously-geared series, The Righteous Gemstones follows Jesse Gemstone (McBride), “the eldest son and heir to the throne of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work, all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Devine will be playing Jesse’s younger brother Kevin Gemstone.  Gemstone Patriarch Eli will be played by Roseanne’s John Goodman. Eli is  “known for his aggressive salvation techniques, his worldwide ministries, and his award-winning weekly television program.”

The Righteous Gemstones pilot will be written and directed by McBride, who is no stranger to HBO original programming. He created and starred on Vice Principals for two seasons alongside Walton Goggins as well as Eastbound & Down, which ran on HBO for four seasons. The new series will team McBride back up with his Eastbound & Down/Vice Principals team of Jody Hill and David Gordon Green.

Devine recently wrapped his seven-season role as Adam DeMamp on Comedy Central’s Workaholics. He has been a recurring guest star on ABC’s Modern Family and recently appeared in two Netflix original movies, Game Over, Man and When We First Met as well as the first two films of the Pitch Perfect franchise.

While The Righteous Gemstones hasn’t been picked up to series yet, with McBride at the helm and a strong supporting cast we’d be surprised if a full season wasn’t eventually ordered by HBO!
