‘Alan Wake’ Rights Revert Back To Remedy, Is A Sequel Now Bound To Happen?

Get your writers block ready and grab a flashlight. The publishing rights for Alan Wake are finally back with the creators. In a press release we find not only does Remedy get a royalty payment of 2.5 million euros, but those publishing rights also revert back to them.

The suspenseful thriller had been a part of Microsoft for some time. But when you do not make any headway on another title in the series, rights tend to be lost. Some had thought we may have a new game incoming during E3, but that is in fact a Blair Witch game.

We already knew from previous reports that Remedy owns the IP. But making a game is never that simple. If Microsoft could immediately shut down a project (and it seems they did) there would never be a reason to keep trying. Now that Remedy has the rights to publish a sequel we might see Alan Wake 2 shopped to different publishers. I also wonder if an HD remake of the original may now be in the cards. I know I want to play that on my PS4.

Remedy will not be working on anything Alan Wake related in any case as it finishes work on their next title, Control. Just as Alan Wake was, Control looks to be quite a trip. You will be chucking things around with telekinesis and firing what seems to be an extremely customizable super pistol. Remedy always has a great handle on whatever games they make, so I would bet on Control being fantastic. I absolutely love Remedy and their creativity and originality.

Remedy also revolutionizes the games they create, with Bullet Time in the Max Payne series and a TV show slash video game in Quantum Break. Could we be in for something truly generation defining if Alan Wake 2 releases? With PS5 and Project Scarlett on the horizon, I am sure Remedy has plans for it.

If you want to pick up Alan Wake with this news, you definitely need to. The title is a fantastic thriller that earned many awards for its storytelling. You play as writer Alan Wake, a writer suffering with writers block. When he arrives at a vacation spot with his wife, she vanishes, and creepy darkness covers the island. Suddenly he is in the fight of his life, finding pages to a book he does not remember writing coming true. There are extra chapters available as DLC, and a spin-off in Alan Wake’s American Nightmare. All of these are available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.

As for Control, you can pick it up August 27th, 2019. The game will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
