‘American Gladiators’ Revival in the works at MGM Television

Get ready! Start training, and get pumped! It looks like the classic strength and endurance competition show American Gladiators is making a comeback at MGM Television. The series revival is in development and reportedly being shopped around to find the right network.

Deadline reports that the producer of the original American Gladiators series John Ferraro in onboard for the revival along with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Rogen and Goldberg are expected to serve as executive producers on the series.

The original American Gladiators series ran from 1989 through 1996 in syndication. Additionally, the series was revived in 2008 for a brief two-season run. American Gladiators pinned two qualified competitor contestants against a team of fitness fanatics known as the Gladiators with names such as Sunny, Blaze, Gemini and Lace. The contestants would compete against each other and the Gladiators through numerous tasks and obstacles such as jousting, gauntlet, hit and run and the Atlasphere.

The series always did particularly well with ratings and was a fan favorite for years. In the current television climate, reboots and revivals are all the rage right now. With sitcom after sitcom being explored for reboots, it’s almost refreshing to see a series like American Gladiators being thrown into the mix. While sitcoms can get stale, even if they are reimagined, and nostalgia may wear off, a competition series is something that is always different and changing with each new episode. Admittedly, we are loving the idea of this series potentially coming back into our lives.
