As far as season premiere’s go, this one has been my favorite – mostly due to the consistent nostalgia that lingered in the air ontop of all these incredible Earth-2 parallels!
The 8th Season of Arrow opened up with a familiar montage of Oliver on Lian Yu, with a bit of a different twist. Rather than the arrow being through just Deathstroke’s mask, we see the iconic Batman mask also. In this version of the story, we learned that Moira married Malcolm, Tommy has been divorced twice, and Thea has died of a drug overdose at the age of 18. Oliver broke into the Queen Consolidated Offices, where he ran into another Green Arrow. After a brief fight he encounters Black Siren and it was revealed that Oliver was on Earth-2, where Adrian Chase is the Green Arrow. The trio determined that the ‘Dark Archer’ was behind the murders at the crime scene, which led to Oliver heading out to confront Malcolm Merlyn.
When Oliver arrived at the Queen Consolidated Headquarters, he ran into the Monitor, who reminded him that his mission was not to interfere with the events on Earth-2, but rather to collect the dwarf star particles to prevent the upcoming ‘Crisis’. When Oliver faced off with Malcolm as The Arrow, he encountered the Dark Archer, who was revealed to be Tommy Merlyn.
At the Merlyn-Queen house, Oliver met Diggle from Earth-1, who explained he was able to find Oliver thanks to technology he borrowed from Cisco. He stated that he was not leaving Earth-2 until Oliver explained to him what was really going on with the ‘Crisis’ on all the earths that Oliver was talking about. Oliver confronted Tommy during his welcome home party, where he learned that Tommy had been working with Rene and Dinah, both of whom are corrupt cops on Earth-2. Tommy disclosed the fact that he stole the particles in order to level the glades to get revenge for Thea’s death. Eventually, Diggle comes in and rescues Oliver while Tommy headed out to see the leveling of the Glades through. They track down Chase and Black Siren, and they all elect to team up in order to stop Tommy.
Oliver eventually tracked down Tommy who, after a heart to heart discussion with Oliver, shut down his Glades-Leveling Device. Oliver had a conversation with Adrian Chase following the fight, where he learns Chase was mentored by Bruce Wayne.
In the closing minutes of the episode, the ‘Crisis’ begins, as Starling City began disappearing from the map. In the closing seconds, Black Siren, Oliver and Diggle managed to escape.
Arrow will return on Tuesday, October 22nd at 9PM/EST on The CW.
