Better Call Saul “Coushatta” Preview

It feels like we’re heading down a path that is going to result in something heartbreaking, doesn’t it? There’s something in the air that feels different than last year’s downfall of Chuck McGill. Maybe it’s because we subconsciously knew that there was no way that Chuck could maintain that type of life without burning out (no pun intended) and his death seemed somewhat inevitable. Not to say it wasn’t impactful. Just because we can kind of guess that a death might be coming it doesn’t negate the act itself. Chuck’s death has quietly hung over this season like a dark shadow reminding us that these characters all have a part to play to some degree and it’s how they rationalize that part that allows them to move forward. This though, this feels like something worse than death.

If this Breaking Bad universe has taught us anything it’s that there are things far worse than death. Look at Gene. Gene is forced to live a paranoid, bland existence because of the actions of Saul Goodman. Knowing what we know of Jimmy and/or Saul we know that existence is a hell that must be unbearable. Saul Goodman is the overflowing dam and Gene’s paranoia is barely keep it from bursting, but given the chance, I think that Saul would rather keep some sort of himself rather than this life. Sure he doesn’t want to go to prison but what’s the difference at this point?

Kim is the person who is poised to lose the most in these last few episodes especially now that she’s agreed to help Jimmy in saving Huell. I understand that Kim loves Jimmy, and takes offense to hearing others call him a dirtbag despite knowing it’s kind of true, but she’s the smartest person on the show. She has to know that what she’s doing is a terrible mistake. There is just so much to lose at this point and something tells me that this gamble is going to blow up in her face. I hope it doesn’t, I hope for a brighter future for Kim but within this universe, I’m not sure if anyone ever gets a “happy ending”.

There are other questions that arise too though, what does it say about Jimmy if he allows Kim to help him save Huell? Is his jealousy going to blind him from the fact that Kim is putting everything on the line in order to help him with another crazy scheme? Even though Saul Goodman awaits us over the horizon, I’m still sitting here silently hoping that Jimmy comes to his senses and doesn’t allow Kim to do this. That this one time, he doesn’t act selfishly and takes it on the chin. But I know he won’t… and it kills me.

Elsewhere Mike has some problems with the construction workers building the super meth lab and I’m wondering how much further he can be pushed by Kai before he pushes back. Mike is a proud, honorable man but he has a limit. Just look at his relationship with Walter White. Mike has a tolerance but he also will suffer no fools. We know that the superlab will be built but we don’t know at what personal cost to Mike.

Did you guys see that Nacho is in the trailer?! It’s funny, the start of this season had me so stressed about the well being of Nacho but with his absence, he feels almost safe, doesn’t he? I don’t trust it at all.

Fun fact, the episode’s name is “Coushatta” which is a term for Native Americans living mostly in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Working theory, this has something to do with smuggling Huell out before being sentenced to jail. Honesty, I have no idea what this could possibly mean.

There you have it Geeklings, are you looking forward to tonight’s new episode of Better Call Saul? What do you think Kim’s plan is?
