‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ Series Reboot in the Works with the Original Cast
There were two arguments that took place in my youth. One involved Saved by the Bell. The other argument involved Beverly Hills, 90210. The question was simple. Were you a Brandon Walsh girl or a Dylan McKay girl? Why no one included David or Steve in this argument is beyond me now that years have past, but he thought of getting a true Beverly Hills, 90210 is beyond exciting for fans of the original show. The idea of glimpsing into these characters lives again is appealing. We know where these characters come from, but where did they go in their lives? Did their dreams come true? The moment I heard about this potential revival my mind began to wander to various scenarios that could take place on the show. Then some of those scenarios vanquished upon doing some research into the 2008 reboot of 90210. I openly admit I could not get used to the idea of going back to West Beverly High without the original gang roaming the halls. We might not have to wait much longer for that to occur though.
According to Deadline, a reboot might be a possibility. While many details have not emerged as to what the show will truly entail, the deal includes Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green and Gabrielle Carteris in the mix. Networks are currently shopping for the chance to air this reboot, but there’s two catches. Luke Perry and Shannen Doherty are missing from this equation. Perry is currently starring on the hit CW show Riverdale and Doherty was recently seen on the conversational television series Heathers. I hope if Perry is not on board as a series regular that somehow and someway they find a way to include Dylan at least in a couple of episodes. The same goes for Doherty. Besides, Dylan and Kelly have a son together so they have to include him somehow right? A reboot with the original cast would not be the same without these two actors so hopefully something can be worked out.
I like the idea of the show surrounding the children of the characters we grew up with now. I know that most do not have kind things to say about these particular scenarios but I for one enjoy Fuller House and am still bitter that Disney canceled Girl Meets World. The idea of going back to West Beverly, which lends itself well to at least Kelly Taylor, who began work there as a counselor in the initial reboot of the series 90210, alongside others could work. In the original reboot Doherty and Spelling were also involved. Maybe Brenda found herself stabilizing upon adoption instead of running through the hills of Hollywood. Maybe she managed to do both. Maybe she is a working mom and we could witness what it is like for her to conquer both. Did Donna go back to David? I’m not sure of this as I did not find an answer through my research, but I cannot imagine a fictional world where Donna and David are not together. There’s something horribly wrong with that scenario.
Despite bygones being bygones, I would willingly tune into the drama of if Dylan ends up with Kelly or Brenda once more. Though it should be Brenda because Brandon cannot end up with his own sister folks! He belonged with Kelly. People will disagree with this sentiment but in my mind it made the most sense growing up to me and still does. If not Kelly, I always wanted him to be with Andrea. I would be happy either way I suppose as long as these characters attain their happily ever after. While we can make assumptions as to how rich and famous the teenagers from Beverly Hills became after college, it would be nice to see how Steve’s life turned out with is wife sans a Sharknado. Spoiler alert, no chainsaws will be necessary in the reboot of this series. If the marriages we grew used to once upon a time dissolved, what new pairings emerge from this reboot? There’s so many lines to build upon this reboot could be one of the better ones on television if picked up.
Plus with the faces that appeared throughout the years on the show the possibilities of characters that could guest star sporadically are truly endless. The only way I see this truly working is if everyone is still somehow involved in everyone’s lives. We do not have to have a weekly episodic viewing where everyone appears each week, but it would be nice to have a dinner table meeting potentially once a month among these friendships made back in the hallway of a high school we all wished we could have gone to at some point. After all, with most of these characters having kids spending time together will be slightly harder than any of them care to admit between their home lives and work. Regardless though I would love to see them try and hear that opening beat one more time that isn’t because of syndication.
