She came. She saw. She conquered. Captain Marvel hit theaters this past weekend and audiences showed up in droves to watch Marvel’s first female-led superhero film, bringing in an estimated $153 million at the North American box office and $455 million worldwide.
That number is once again another big win for Marvel, who tends to dominate the box office whenever a new hero flies into theaters. Captain Marvel is now the first title of 2019 to debut with over $100 million, making it the biggest opening for the new year as well. In the world of Marvel, Captain Marvel was the studio’s seventh biggest opening and the second biggest debut for a new MCU character behind Black Panther.
Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as she becomes one of the most powerful superheroes after finding herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. It features a supporting cast of Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Annette Bening, Ben Mendelsohn, Lee Pace, and Lashana Lynch. To see our full review of the film head here!
Second and third place at the box office this weekend went to How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
