‘Chicago Fire’ Alum Charlie Barnett Joins Season 2 of ‘You’

What are the chances that Joe Goldberg will be okay with his next obsession having a guy as her best friend? That’s what we are all going to find out when Chicago Fire alum Charlie Barnett joins the cast for the upcoming second season of You on Netflix. The show’s sophomore season will find stalker/murderer Joe (Penn Badgley) leaving New York and heading to California where he will meet  Love Quinn (Haunting of Hill House’s Victoria Pedretti) – an aspiring chef working as a produce manager in a high-end grocery store who is very uninterested in the world of social media.

Will Love suffer the same fate as Beck? That’s where Barnett comes in. According to Deadlinethe actor will be playing “Gabe, Love’s oldest friend and closest confidant. He’s a successful acupuncturist and psychedelics aficionado living L.A. life to the fullest.” We can’t imagine Joe will be too keen on another man having such a vital role in Love’s life once he sets his sights on her.

Barnett joins a growing roster for the show’s sophomore season including Gotham’s Robin Lord Taylor who will be playing a man named Will, Heathers’ James Scully who will be playing Love’s brother, and Jane the Virgin’s Jenna Ortega who will be playing a teenage girl who gives Joe a run for his money.

Adapted for television from the Caroline Kepnes novel of the same name, season one of You, which originally debuted on the Lifetime Network, followed a young bookstore clerk named Joe who used his savvy internet know-how (aka stalking abilities) to make Guinevere Beck fall in love with him while taking care of any obstacles standing in their way. Since the first season followed the entirety of Kepnes’ novel,  Netflix’s sophomore season will loosely follow her second book titled Hidden Bodies.

He’s quite familiar with Netflix having recently starred in their latest original series Russian Doll and is soon to star in Tales of the City, which follows a middle-aged woman who returns to San Francisco and reunites with the eccentric friends she left behind.
