Chris Evans is Officially Done With Captain America

Chris Evans has officially wrapped his filming and reshoots on Avengers 4.

He let fans know in a bittersweet tweet that reads:

Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.

It’s been rumored that he would be leaving the role, and he spoke on the matter recently in an interview with The New York Times. He alluded, “You want to get off the train before they push you off.”

Although this may seem like it’s too sad to be true, his tweet is very final sounding and spoken in the past tense. He would have no other reason to tweet the “Thank you and goodbye” if he weren’t finished with the character. Unless he is completely trying to throw fans off (which would be an out of character joke for the heartfelt Evans), we best begin kissing him goodbye.

Evans is 37 and has been playing the Captain America/Steve Rogers role in the MCU for the past 8 years. He first appeared as Rogers in 2011 in Captain America: The First Avenger. He also portrayed Johnny Storm in a few Fantastic Four movies.

He then appeared as Cap in The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018). He cameo’d in several other MCU films as well.

All I’m saying is there best be some closure in the Tony Stark/Steve Rogers friendship because we barely got any from Infinity War. A new Cap could potentially rise in the cinematic world of Marvel. For example, Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson have each taken on the role in the comics at various times.

We will get to see Evans take his final bow in Avengers 4 when it hits theaters May 3rd, 2019.
