Chuku Modu Says an Emotional Goodbye to 'The Good Doctor' Cast

Monday night’s emotional season two premiere of The Good Doctor may have been titled Hello, but it was the episode’s one major goodbye that broke the hearts of viewers everywhere.

The staff of St. Bonaventure said farewell to one of their own when Dr. Jared Kalu (flawlessly portrayed by Chuku Modu) left the hospital to further pursue his new career in Denver. During the episode, which was written by series star Freddie Highmore, Dr. Kalu seemingly made his peace with his past at the hospital. He helped Dr. Shaun Murphy (Highmore) find his way one last time and even got some closure when it came to his relationship with Dr. Claire Brown (played by Antonia Thomas). All in all, it was a beautiful send off for the character.

Of course, a character departure on the show also means that the cast has to say goodbye in real life. During the episode and shortly thereafter, fans, cast and crew all took to social media to say their goodbyes and show some love to both Chuku Modu and his character, Dr. Kalu.

On Tuesday, Modu took to Instagram to show some love back. He regrammed a photo originally posted by fellow co-star Tamlyn Tomita. The photo shows Thomas, Modu, and co-star Hill Harper walking away from the camera with their arms wrapped around each other. Tomita had appropriately captioned the photo, “Behind the scenes, behind the stories, behind the cameras, there is ❤️”

Modu reposted the emotional photo with a caption for his Good Doctor family which reads, “Walking off to Denver like… What the wonderful @thetamlyntomita said. Nothing but love love love love love, I’m filled. If only you knew the good vibes and energy that’s in constant motion when the cameras aren’t rolling. Thank you all for teaching me more than you will ever know. Thanks for the love my peoples, on to the next one.”

Viewers will certainly miss Dr. Kalu and Chuku Modu on The Good Doctor, but who knows what the future will bring. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that maybe, just maybe, there’s room for a return in future episodes.

In addition to Modu, Highmore, Thomas, Tomita, and Hill, The Good Doctor stars Nicholas Gonzalez as Dr. Neil Melendez, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, Christina Chang as Dr. Audrey Lim, Fiona Gubelmann as Dr. Morgan Reznick, Will Yun Lee as Dr. Alex Park and Paige Spara as Lea. The series is created by David Shore who also serves executive producer along with Daniel Dae Kim, David Kim, and Sebastian Lee.

New episodes of The Good Doctor air Monday nights at 10/9c on ABC.
