Clark Gregg to Direct ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Season 6 Premiere

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans may not yet know the exact fate of director Phil Coulson (played by Clark Gregg) at the end of the series’ fifth season, it has been confirmed that Gregg will be back for the next season, but if in a different capacity.

Over the weekend, it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Gregg will have a significant role behind the scenes during the sixth season. Gregg is confirmed as directing the very first episode of the upcoming season which is titled Missing Pieces.

The official Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. social media accounts also confirmed the news and teased the upcoming episode with a picture of the first episode’s script cover page. The caption of the photo reads, “Season 6 and @clarkgregg is in the director’s chair for the first episode! We can’t wait for you to see what we have coming on Marvel’s #AgentsofSHIELD!” Check out the post below.

This will be the second episode on which Gregg has stepped into the director’s role. He previously directed an episode during the show’s fifth season titled Fun & Games. Additionally, Gregg has directed two feature films.

The season opener is written by co-creators Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen and will hopefully also feature Gregg in front of the camera as surely fans are dying to know what Agent Coulson is up to. When season five ended, Coulson had accepted his impending death and he left to live out his final days in Tahiti with Agent May (played by Ming-Na Wen).

Is it possible that Coulson could, once again, outlive his seemingly positive fate?

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return for a limited 13-episode season in 2019. An official premiere date has not yet been announced.
