Colin Trevorrow Leaves ‘Star Wars Episode IX’: Who Will Replace him?

Colin Trevorrow is officially leaving the next Star Wars film in the making.

This is the statement that came form Lucasfilm Tuesday.

“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”

This is not the first time directors and studios have clashed on the series,

The director duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller originally set to direct the Han Solo spinoff also stepped down this June, and shook fans.

They also stepped down due to “creative differences” with producers on the film and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. It was worrisome, until they replace the two with Ron Howard. (The Da Vinci Code). That film will be out in 2018.

The team were known for directing The Lego Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street-So maybe the comedy didn’t so much fit in the Star Wars franchise.

They canned another standalone Star Wars story in 2015 after dropping Fantastic Four director Josh Trans from that one.

So what it comes down to when these directors are exiting, seems to be differences between them and a certain direction that Lucasfilm wants to take the franchise.

People are already speculating who should replace Trevorrow, who has little on his resume except Jurassic World. (He also has a writing credit on the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom). Thus far. Rian Johnson, who didn’t experience any struggle while working on The Last Jedi (currently), and J. J. Abrams on The Force Awakens are fan favorites.

Episode IX is expected to once again star Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. It’s expected out in May of 2019.
