Darth Vader’s Most Recent Comic Reveals Anakin’s True ‘Father’

Say what you will about the Star Wars Prequels, their ability to circulate new exciting comics and even animated series to fill in gaps has redeemed the highly debatable and even controversial trilogy.

Among the many popular comic series lies the Darth Vader comic book, written by Charles Soule and drawn by Giuseppe Camuncoli, which has, over the year, introduced many new interesting aspects to the canon.

Such surprises include the first female Sith Master- Master Shaa, and the true purpose behind Darth Vader’s castle on Mustafar which was designed by the ancient Sith Lord Momin and intended to channel the force leading the heartbroken Lord Vader to use the castle to resurrect his one true love, Padmé.

The final issue of the series came out today and it answers one of the biggest questions about the Prequels.

Now, the Midi-Chlorians were highly hated by the Star Wars fan base, and I expected some form of retcon where the Midi-Chlorians were removed. But no. The canon has continued to run with it and it has resulted in one of the most shocking and brilliant revelations to date.

Prepare yourselves for Spoilers.

If you recall in The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon Jinn lectures little Anakin (and the audience) about the Midi-Chlorians, stating that they are microscopic beings that are responsible for connecting all life forms. The theory arose that Anakin was a byproduct of the god-like ability of the Midi-Chlorians who, for some reason, decided to grant Shmi a boy child who happened to be the one who would bring balance to the Force- up until the arrival of the First Order.

Many fans remained skeptical about Anakin’s heritage. But the true answer has finally been revealed. (One last warning… turn back now)

Anakin’s birth was a result of a being manipulating the Dark Side of the Force.

That’s right.

Anakin Skywalker was the result of force-like manipulation by Darth Sidious himself.

A very similar theory has plagued the internet ever since Revenge of the Sith when Palpatine revealed the story behind Darth Plagueis. It was heavily hinted that Palpatine learned the mystery behind creating life through the Force and killed his Master after learning all he could. This created the theory that Plagueis and Sidious worked together to create a weapon, this was seemingly confirmed in Plagueis, written by James Luceno, before it was removed from the canon and added to the expanded Universe.

What this comic does differently in comparison to Luceno’s interpretation, is that it appears that Emperor Palpatine has a personal hand in the creation of Anakin. The comic shows Palpatine visiting Shmi and planting the Force inside her whilst his arms encircle her as she stands oblivious to what is happening and what is to come. The comic does an amazing job at conveying the hideous truth through beautifully drawn panels.

Until now, the mystery surrounding Anakin has circulated online from fan to fan and the truth further blurred by additional texts set outside of the official canon. But now, fans have their answer. The question now is whether this revelation will have an ongoing effect, but one thing is clear. This revelation will cause fans to re-examine what they once knew and look at the relationship between Anakin and the Emperor in a new light.

Darth Vader #25 is now available to buy and read.
