Diego Luna to Star in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Prequel Series for Disney+

Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, is gearing up for launch by adding even more incredible, original content to its platform.

Disney Chairman and CEO announced on Thursday that the streaming service will be the home of another new live-action Star Wars series. The new series from Disney and Lucasfilm will be a prequel to the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and will be centered around Diego Luna’s character Cassian Andor. Luna will be reprising his role and starring in the series.

The currently untitled series will follow the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and is expected to begin production next year.

After Iger’s announcement on Thursday, Luna released a statement speaking fondly of the Star Wars franchise and expressing his excitement over delving further into that universe. In a statement, he said:

[row]“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” Luna said in a statement following the announcement. I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”[/row]

We don’t know a whole lot about the series just yet, but according to StarWars.com, “the rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”

We can’t wait to learn more about this Rogue One prequel as well as what other awesome content Disney has planned for Disney+.
