Dwayne Johnson and Tom Hanks Tease 2020 Presidential Run on ‘SNL’

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hosted Saturday Night Live‘s season finale this weekend.  Before taking the stage, Johnson took to social media the day prior to tease the night’s festivities promising “surprises and big laughs.”  He tweeted photo of himself standing behind a presidential podium with the caption, “America, I hear you.  Tune in TONIGHT for our season finale of [SNL] for surprises and big laughs. #SNLFinale #5xHost #2020”

Based on the political theme of his SNL teaser tweet, you better believe he brought up the possibility of running for office in 2020 during the show.

For a while now, Johnson has been talking about the idea of running for president of the United States in the next election.  Whether or not that’s all a joke or just an idea isn’t completely clear but, in a recent interview, when asked if he would seriously consider giving up acting in order to run for office, he responded by saying, ‘I think that it’s a real possibility.‘  But, really, is he serious?

Serious or not, during his SNL opening monologue, Johnson introduced his running mate for the 2020 election; Tom Hanks.

Hanks graciously accepted the invitation to be a running-mate and, together the two went on to tease their qualifications and likability.  Johnson quipped, “Now in the past, I never would have considered running for president, but now I’m actually worried that I’m too qualified.”

Hanks continued, “The truth is, America needs us. No one can seem to agree on anything anymore, except for two things…” To which Johnson chimed in and said, “Pizza and us.”

Hanks estimates that the duo would get 100% of the votes and, well, their reasons are pretty hilarious.  Check out the video below.

Johnson continued on, “When it comes to politics, we need more poise and less noise.  Americans deserve strong capable leaders, leaders who care about this country and care about its people.”

Hanks jumped in and restated his commitment to joining Johnson as running mate by saying, “Dwayne, that kinda sounds like you and me! I guess we gotta do it!” Just then, a Johnson/Hanks 2020 banner dropped from above the stage along with celebratory confetti.
