Fan Fest Picks: Top 5 Assassins from the ‘Assassins Creed’ Series

If there is one gaming series that I have truly grown in love with over the past few years – it is Assassins Creed. When the trailer for Odyssey was revealed at E3, I just about lost my mind. This is a gaming series I will NEVER grow tired of.
While they have similar concepts and a similar endstate; no game is ever the same. From the very first time I saw a trailer for the original Assassins Creed, I knew that it was something that I needed to play. A guy dressed in these bad-ass robes and leaping off of buildings – how cool was that?
I learned shortly after playing for the first time, it was so much more than that. This is a series that I have genuinely fallen in love with – and I cannot get enough of it. I was extremely pleased to find out that my fellow Arrow-verse writing partner, Alyssa shares a similar love for the series!
We combed through all of our games and put together our ‘Top 5’ Assassins!

Number 5:

Alyssa and Jules: Edward Kenway

Alyssa: When I started playing Black Flag, I wasn’t really a big fan of Edward. He was, well, an unlikable pirate. As his story progressed, he really grew on me. Eventually, he outgrows most of his jerk-ness and becomes a good guy.
Jules: Originally, I hated Edward. I thought he was one of the most annoying video game characters I had ever come across (and if you’re a Zelda fan and ever played Ocarina of Time – Navi is pretty hard to beat!). I must have called him a spoiled brat one too many times. However, the more problems he came across – the more I started to like him. While I hated his personality from the get-go, I thought that the way he broke himself free from all the challenges was pretty cool. Also, he did start to get a lot nicer too. At any rate, he crawled his way into my Top 5.

Number 4:

Jules: Connor aka Ratonhnhaké

I love the take of the whole Revolutionary War in the Assassins series. Being a member of the Mohawk tribe made him an almost like an outsider. Despite this, he volunteered to join the Assassins Guild. How can I not love a good outsider story?

Alyssa:  Bayek

Bayek is driven by the love of his family and all-around a great guy. His journey through Egypt always has him helping those around him as best he can. Despite everything he went through, he still has one of the best smiles of all the assassins.

Number 3:

Alyssa and Jules: Arno Dorian

Alyssa: Arno was incredibly charismatic and I really enjoyed playing through his story in Unity. His loyalty to his country and creed is unwavering and fights for what he believes in. He was not without his faults, as his headstrong-ness gets him into some trouble. Plus, I really love him and Elise.
Jules: Similar to what Alyssa said – I love his loyalty to his country and to the creed. Being in the military myself, I know how important that unwavering dedication is. I admire his ‘can do’ attitude with a touch of ‘I don’t take no BS’.

Number 2:

Jules: Ezio Auditore da Firenze

He’s a sweet Italian, he’s got the name of ‘Firezne’ – how can he not be in my top 3? I grew really attached to his character because he was someone I could take through a few of the games in the series. I mean, my last name is ‘Valenti’ – I have to be proud of my Italian roots! He was certainly a refreshing newbie after playing the first game. Gotta love an assassin with a little bit of spunk!

Alyssa: Evie and Jacob Frye

Both of the twins are here because it is their relationship and clashing personalities that make me love them so much. The constant bickering was hilarious. Regardless of how angry they were with each other, they would always have the other’s back. If I only had to pick on, it would be Evie because she is a total badass, and it was great to finally have the opportunity to play as a woman.

Number 1:

Jules: Altair Ibn-La’Ahad

I will always have a soft spot for Altair, because it was stereo-typically my first game into the series. Although I have played almost all of the games following, his story has always been my favorite. I never would have suspected the betrayal of the master – and Altair is just… pretty much an all around badass. 🙂

Alyssa:  Ezio Auditore da Firenze

Assassin’s Creed II was the first one I played, and I instantly fell in love with Ezio. He is the charming Italian, what’s not to love? What I really like is that we got to play him in three games and see how he grows over the years.
