Fox and Netflix Involved in a Lawsuit

Looks like a potential legal showdown between 21st Century Fox and Netflix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has filed a complaint against Netflix with the Los Angeles Superior Court. The production company is seeking an injunction to stop contractual interference with executives they believe is happening at the hands of Netflix.

The complaint, which was filed by Fox last Friday, alleges that Netflix has run “a brazen campaign to unlawfully target, recruit, and poach valuable Fox executives by illegally inducing them to break their employment contracts with Fox to work at Netflix.”

THR is reporting that the complaint specifically follows the hiring and negotiations of two executives as Netflix allegedly became aware of the situation and attempted to induce them to breach their contracts with Fox.

Daniel Petrocelli at O’Melveny & Myers are representing Fox and they are currently seeking the injunction along with compensatory and punitive damages.

This isn’t the first time news of alleged employee poaching has appeared. In the last year, big talent agencies Creative Arts Agency (CAA) and United Talent Agency (UTA) have gone to court after UTA accused CAA of poaching their agents.

With Netflix vowing to “vigorously” defend themselves against Fox, we’ll have to wait and see their answer to the complaint where things go from here.
