‘Game of Thrones’ Final Season Won’t Start Filming Until October

We finally have an estimated production start date for the 8th and final season of Game of Thrones and it looks like it’s going to be another long wait for fans.

'Game of Thrones' Final Season Won't Start Filming Until October

Filming for the hit HBO series typically kicks off mid-summer and then continues to film through the end of the year, however, last season, that timeline was delayed.  Because of the fact that winter had officially arrived on the series, Season 7 began filming in September, much later than usual in order to coincide with winter and continued through February of 2017.  This also pushed the premiere date back to summer when it typically takes place in the spring.

In a recent interview with Collider, series star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau confirmed another delayed start for the series.  Coster-Waldau was speaking with the outlet to promote his new movie Shot Caller when he was asked about what lies ahead in season 8, the final season of Game of Thrones.

Coster-Waldau told the outlet that he didn’t know what was ahead in the series because the cast had not yet received their scripts signaling that filming will be later this year.  He said:

“I knew what was going to happen for the first three seasons. After that, it’s been a season at a time. You get the scripts a month before we start shooting, or six weeks, and then you know what’s going to happen that season. But, I don’t know what’s going to happen next season. We go back in October, so maybe in the next few weeks, we’ll get the scripts and I’ll find out. I’m very curious.”

Season 8 of Game of Thrones will be the series’ shortest containing only 6 episodes.  It has been rumored that each episode may be supersized in length and could possibly even be feature film length in order to properly wrap up all the storylines.  Supersized episodes combined with the entertaining fast pace that we are seeing in season 7 will surely make for an EPIC finale!
