Live Action ‘Gundam’ Movie Gets Writer

Comic book writer, Brian K. Vaughan, who wrote popular series such as Saga and Y: The Last Man, has been hired by Legendary to write the upcoming live-action Mobile Suit Gundam movie.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Vaughan’s involvement but little is known about the upcoming project. Mobile Suit Gundam has a very vast history, in fact there are 10 different timelines that are made up of anime series, movies, and manga. We have the Universal Century, Future Century, Mars Century, After War, Correct Century, Cosmic Era, Anno Domini, Advanced Generation, Regild Century, and Post Disaster.

So not only do we not know who will direct and star in the project, but we don’t know when the film will actually be set. For all we know, the film could actually be an entirely new story. However, when Legendary announced their live-action film they did point to the mythos surrounding the Universal Century, the timeline in which the original series took place. That suggests, that the film may heavily rely on the lore from that period.

For those who are unfamiliar, The original series which aired in 1979, saw the people of Earth move to space colonies after the population on Earth grew exponentially. The people living in the colonies seek independence and launch against Earth using giant robots called Mobile Suits. Some may recognize the RX-78-2 from Ready Player One when it made a brief, but awesome appearance during the final fight against Mechagodzilla.

Hopefully, more details will be released soon. Once new details become available, we will be sure to update you!
