Harley Quinn Solo Film in the Works
Harley Quinn Solo Film in the Works
When it was announced that Margot Robbie would be playing Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, I was a little apprehensive. I didn’t know much about Robbie, and to completely capture the essence of Harley Quinn would definitely be a challenge. When the first images for the film were released, I was like “Okay, she has the look.” Then came the first trailer. One of the big reasons I am so excited for the movie is Robbie. From what we have seen so far, she nails Harley Quinn. And since then, I have been hoping that she would get her own film.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that a Harley Quinn movie is being considered by Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. The incredibly cool thing about all of this is that the project was started by Robbie herself. While filming Suicide Squad, she was drawn into the universe and fell in love with all the female heroes and villains. She has even found a female writer to pen the script. The fact that Robbie is doing all of this just goes to show how much she has invested in Harley, and makes me even more excited to finally see her in Suicide Squad.
The plot details are a well-guarded secret, but we know that it will not just be about Harley Quinn. Robbie would star alongside other DC female heroes and villains. Rumor has it that Batgirl and Birds of Prey are being tossed around. The current run of the Harley Quinn comics are really fun and I expect that the film will draw a lot from them, especially since there will be so many female heroes and villains making their appearance. We should probably expect to see Poison Ivy since she and Harley are incredibly close. In Batman: The Animated Series, Harley ditches the Joker and joins forces with Ivy. They become a crime duo and all of the episodes featuring them are really great and funny. Honestly, just give me a film where Harley and Ivy are out causing problems and are taken down by the Birds of Prey and I will be an incredibly happy camper.
Of all of the solo films in development right now at Warner Bros., this is the one that I most want to happen. Harley is such an incredibly interesting character and I really think that Margot Robbie is going to knock it out of the park in Suicide Squad, which opens in theaters August 5, 2016.
