Henry Cavill Teases His New Role in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’

On Tuesday, it was officially announced that Henry Cavill would be returning to television and taking on the role of Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s upcoming saga The Witcher.

Netflix announced last year that it was taking on the fantasy series and Cavill had previously expressed interest in joining the cast. Just last month during a press junket, Cavill hinted at his interest in the role. It’s still unclear if he had already been cast at that time or not, but now that the cat is officially out of the bag, Cavill is having a little bit of fun.

The actor is extremely active on his Instagram and Facebook social media pages. On the day that his casting was made official, Cavill posted a tease for his fans in order to announce the news. On his social media pages, he posted a photo of the Netflix viewing profile screen which posed the question, “Who’s watching Netflix?” The Netflix home screen featured only one viewing profile belonging to Geralt of Rivia.

Cavill posted the photo with the caption, “My new mailing address is: Geralt C/O Vesemir Kaer Morhen Kaer Morhen Valley Hertch Kaedwen Please note, I’m rarely there. Monster slaying being what it is. So, replies will be few and far between, if at all. @Netflix #Witcher #GeraltOfRivia”

We love that Cavill seems to be already having a blast in his new role!

Netflix’s The Witcher will be an 8 episode series directed by Alik Sakharov (House of Cards, Game of Thrones), Alex Garcia Lopez (Marvel’s Luke Cage, Utopia), and Charlotte Brändström (Outlander, Counterpart, Disparue). Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s The Defenders, Umbrella Academy) is the showrunner and will also executive produce along with Sakharov.

The logline for the upcoming series is as follows:

[row]”Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”[/row]

Additional casting or a premiere date have not yet been announced.
