‘Indiana Jones 5’ Release Date Pushed Back

If you were looking forward to watching Indiana Jones grace the big screen at some point next year, sorry to say you’ll have to wait a little bit longer.

It was announced this week that production on the upcoming fifth installment in the Indiana Jones film franchise has been delayed again. According to Variety, the film is still very much happening though this is the second time that its release has been pushed back

The still-untitled Indiana Jones 5 will see the return of its titular character played once again by Harrison Ford, though rumors have been swirling that this might be Ford’s last hurrah as the iconic adventurer and archeologist. Steven Spielberg is on board to direct and has previously spoken out about his willingness to take the franchise in a new direction should Ford retire from his role. He has even said that perhaps in the sixth installment, the Indiana Jones character could be played by a female. He said:

[row]“We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that. My mom was strong. She had a voice, she had a very strong opinion. I have been very lucky to be influenced by women, several of whom I have just loved madly — my mom and my wife.”[/row]

Jonathan Kasdan is reportedly on board to write the script for the film. He is somewhat of a legacy when it comes to the Indiana Jones films. Kasdan’s father, Lawrence, wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark. additionally both Jonathan and Lawrence collaborated together on Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The film was originally supposed to hit theaters in 2019 and was pushed back to July 10, 2020. With this most recent delay, Indiana Jones 5 is pushed back “several months,” perhaps until 2021 or later.
