Jake Gyllenhaal is Coming to TV for HBO’s New Limited Series “Lake Success”

The landscape of television has certainly shifted since being dubbed “The Golden Age” and now more than ever, Hollywood A-listers are making the move to the small screen in search of more enriching and longer-narrative projects. The latest addition? Academy Award nominee and upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home star Jake Gyllenhaal.

According to Deadlinethe actor will be heading to HBO to star in a new limited series based on Gary Shteyngart’s 2018 novel Lake Success. The series follows “narcissistic, self-deluded and hilariously divorced from the real world hedge fund manager Barry Cohen (Gyllenhaal), who flees his family, his past and the SEC on a cross-country bus ride in search of his college girlfriend and a last chance at romantic redemption. Meanwhile, back in Manhattan, his brilliant wife Seema struggles to raise their autistic son and begins a tragicomic love affair of her own.”

Shteyngart will co-write and co-showrun Lake Success with Watchmen’s Tom Spezial. Gyllenhaal will executive produce under his Nine Stories banner alongside Riva Marker.

With HBO’s juggernaut Game of Thrones on its final season, the premium cable service is bringing quite the star power to their catalog moving forward. Meryl Streep is set to star in the upcoming second season of Big Little Lies, which already stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Laura Dern and Kate Winslet will be starring in a new limited series titled Mare of EasttownIt’s set to follow a small-town Pennsylvania detective who investigates a local murder at a time when her own life is crumbling around her.
