Janelle Monáe to Take Over for Julia Roberts in ‘Homecoming’ Season 2

Julia Roberts may not be returning as Heidi Bergman for season 2 of Homecoming, but the show must go on. According to Deadlineactress Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures) will star as the lead in what has now become an anthology series for Amazon. Monae will be playing “tenacious woman who finds herself floating in a canoe, with no memory of how she got there — or even who she is.”

The new season will deviate away from the original podcast it was based on and introduce new characters and story. It is unknown if any of the other season one players will be back for round two. One character fans can most likely expect to see again is Hong Chau’s Audrey who appeared in a post-credit scene.

Written and directed by Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, the half-hour drama followed a mysterious facility that helped soldiers transition from the battlefield to civilian life. Homecoming was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, but was surprisingly snubbed at the recent Emmy nominations.

In addition to Hidden Figures, Monáe also appeared in films such as Welcome to Marwen and Moonlight. Are you excited to see Monáe take on her first leading television role? Let us know what you hope to see in season 2 of Homecoming!
