Some Recent Funko News and Pre-Orders

The past two weeks have been rather busy for Funko. The pop culture vinyl company has hit the ground running thus far in 2019, and some of their recent announcements have provided fans the opportunity to collect some significant franchises. As always the links for pre-orders and purchases will be included after the images/information.

Some Recent Funko News and Pre-Orders
     Funko – Dr. Seuss

First up is the release of iconic author and wordsmith Theodor Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss).  Since Funko already has many of his famous characters in vinyl form, adding the author was only a matter of time.  This Pop! should release in February, but you can pre-order here.

Next, this next franchise is producing some Pops! that are really, really ridiculously good looking.  (See what I did there?) The Zoolander franchise will give collectors three key figures with the opportunity to land a chase featuring Mugatu’s dog.  Derek, Hansel, and Mugatu are penciled to walk the runway in late April/early May.  I couldn’t find any confirmation regarding the box run for the chase, but I wouldn’t imagine it being super rare.  You can pre-order here.

Up next is the Princess of Pop Britney Spears. Not much has been confirmed in regard to a hard release date, but February is expected.  Her iconic snake pose from “I’m a Slave 4 U” served as the inspiration for this Pop! figure, and I would imagine 2019 will be a more music-laden year for Funko with releases of a Queen line and Angus Young AC/DC Pops! already this year. Side note: a Billy Idol Pop! was also announced, but I’ll dive into that for the notable February releases later this month. You can pre-order Britney Spears here.

For all of you nostalgic collectors, Betty Boop is not a stranger to Funko fame, but her new Sock Hop pose with Pudgy is pretty cool.  The Betty Boop franchise has a rather devout fan following, so I would imagine more Pops! in the future.  Pre-order here for an anticipated February release.

This next Pop! is surely going to be a hit with its awesome attention to detail.  DC’s Dark Knights: Metal story line wrapped up last year, but this multiverse platform is still gaining steam.  Scott Snyder’s The Batman Who Laughs will be enshrined in vinyl form as a Previews Exclusive, so the price will be a few dollars higher than your average figure.  Expect this guy to hit the market sometime in February, but I think a pre-order may be necessary to secure him.

To stick with a super hero theme, Marvel is rumored to begin production on Avengers: Endgame Pops! and other merchandise rather soon, but this Amazon Exclusive 10″ Giant Man figure is not from said line.  Yes, there is another Giant Man 10″ Pop! figure, but this one features a different pose, as it is a continuation of last year’s Ant-Man and Wasp line.  The figure is expected to ship in early March, so you will receive it well before we find out what happens to Scott Lang in the fourth installment of Avengers.  Pre-order here.

These next two athletes were often thought to have super powers when they played, and now the iconic Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky will be immortalized as Pops!  Yeah, who needs a Hall of Fame bust when you can have a Pop! figure?  All joking aside, these figures look great, and the iconic Air Jordan pose is sure to be a hit.  (Pre-order it here.)  There are two other Jordan figures releasing as exclusives to Target and Fanatics.  Wayne Gretzky will get a standard Pop! featuring him in a Kings and Oilers sweater, but I am more interested in the four pack featuring the Great One in all his sweaters. Being a Blues fan myself, I buy up anything Gretzky from his brief time wearing the note.  The four pack is exclusive to Fanatics with an expected release later this winter, but no pre-order information is  available at this time.

The last major piece of news came a week or so ago, but I wanted to wait to compile some more information on it.  Funko announced a new “Candy” line much like their previous food-related line featuring iconic cereal mascots.  You can now buy those adorably hateful Sour Patch Kids in figure form, and I really am excited to add a few to my collection.  Peeps Bunnies (two of which are exclusives to the Funko Store and F.Y.E.) were also included in the line, but I am not sure why the classic Chicks are not featured instead.  Pre-order for an expected February release… Sour Patch here and Peeps here.
