Jason Voorhees actor says Jason is a Friend to Animals

Earlier this month, fans of the popular Slasher Film Series Friday the 13th got a bit of excitement as the new Friday the 13th: The Game made its way onto Xbox, PS4 and PC Consoles across the world.

This gaming debut came shortly after news of a new Friday the 13th movie franchise swept the web, raising excitement for Jason fans everywhere.

One thing that we find ourselves asking when it comes to horror villains is that we find ourselves asking is; do they have any rules?

Some horror villains will kill their victims because they are over a certain age, some are bound to the dream state and some refuse to kill women and children. We’ve certainly seen quite the variety of villains over the years, and each of them have their own unique characteristic. (We’ll stick with that word).

Given all of this ‘Jason’ news, I decided to do a little bit of research on him. He’s definitely one of those ‘bad guys’ that we still can’t figure out 100%. Jason, by far, has one of the highest body counts out of all the major horror villains. It’s certainly been proven that Jason is a silent, ruthless killing machine incapable of empathy or remorse; however he is known to have a soft spot for dogs. Or at least, he does according to one of the actors who has played the character.

Kane Hodder, one of the most well-known Jason actors to date, has portayed the character of Jason in several of the franchise films, and he feels that after playing the character multiple times, he has a strong belief as to how far Jason would really go.

During the filming of Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan there was a point and time in the script that called for Jason to kick a dog in the face to get it to stop barking. Hodder refused to entertain the idea, telling the director that even though Jason was ruthless when it came to killing people, even Jason couldn’t bring himself to harm such an innocent animal. Jason, was a friend to the animals. Mind you, when he did so… he was also dressed in full costume.

After all, it was the camp counselors that were the reason for Jason’s death… not man’s best friend. Hodder was so against the idea of Jason harming an animal that the scene was cut and in every film in which Hodder played Jason after that, an animal was never harmed.

Kane Hodder has always been well-known for his performances as Jason, both on and off screen. He once said that one of the most fun parts of his tenure as Jason was the scenes in Times Square (Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan). He says that spectators were lined up and down the block watching the filming, and he didn’t want to take off the mask to destroy their illusion of Jason. He said that every once in awhile he’d turn his head and look at them, just like Jason did in the movies to his victims, and watch them all go crazy.
