Jeffrey Dean Morgan is up for a Critics’ Choice Award for his portrayal of Negan

“I don’t enjoy killing women. Men — I can waste them all the live long.”

If you’ve tuned into season 7 of The Walking Dead or caught the traumatizing final 11 minutes of season 6; you’ve been introduced to the man, the myth, the villain that is Negan. Jeffrey Dean Morgan manages to bring a sense of charisma and charm to one of the most insulting characters that fans of the series have been introduced to yet, and likely ever will be. From his presence which demands respect, or at the very least, all of your attention to his snarky attitude and the way he runs the entire show with an iron fist – or barbed wire bat – Negan has become the ‘it’ man of The Walking Dead.

It comes as no surprise then, that Jeffrey Dean Morgan has earned a Critics’ Choice Award Nomination for his portrayal of Negan in the Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series category.  AMC has a total of 9 nominations under its belt; one for The Walking Dead, 5 for The Night Manager, and 3 for Better Call Saul.

On December 11th at 8 pm the nominees will be honored at a ceremony live on A&E from sunny California and we’ll definitely be tuning in. It takes a hell of an actor – and a man – to make a character like Negan human, it takes an even more incredible one to make him someone that fans find endearing, even in all of his evil.  After watching the first few episodes of this season we’re convinced, along with the rest of TWD’s fandom, that no one could have played the role better.
